The practical conclusion: your cat has not "gone out into the world." It is nearby, hiding and staying quiet. The right approach is a thorough, repeated search of a small area, not a search over a long distance.

An indoor cat that escapes outside: the smallest radius
A cat that lives exclusively indoors and escapes outside goes into survival mode: it hides in the first covered spot it finds, just a few dozen meters away, and may stay there for days. It will not respond to its name or meow, even if it hears you.
Search close to the ground: under cars, under stairs, in dumpsters, garages and bushes, within a radius of 100-250 meters, several times, especially at night.
An outdoor cat: its familiar territory
Cats that go outside every day typically have a territory spanning a few hundred meters. When they are gone for more than a day, they are usually trapped somewhere, such as a garage, basement or attic, injured, or frightened by something in their territory, such as a dog, a new cat or loud noises.
Start with the places it knows, then ask your neighbors to open any enclosed spaces. Being trapped is the number one cause.
When to expand the search radius
- After 3-4 days without any sign, expand the search to 500 m - 1 km and put up posters.
- An online post covers the entire area from the start: someone 800 meters away may post that they saw your cat, even if you have not searched there yet.
- Do not abandon the starting area: many cats are found in exactly the same place during the second week.
