The perfect lost pet poster (+ free template)
Updated: August 26, 2026 · Reunika
A good poster can be read on the go, from 5 metres away, in 3 seconds: one large photo, a single huge word (LOST), the location and an instant way to get in touch. Everything else is just visual clutter that steals attention.
No account. Starting the alert takes 30 seconds.
What to include, from top to bottom
- The word LOST (or FOUND), taking up about a third of the page.
- The photo: large and clear, against a simple background, with distinctive markings visible.
- The name and 2-3 details that matter: colour, size, collar, distinctive feature.
- The location and date: "missing on 12 August, near the central park".
- Instant contact: a phone number OR a QR code linking to the online listing. The QR code is better: anyone who scans it can see new photos, view the map and report information directly, without having to remember a number.
Where to put it so people see it
- At traffic-light intersections, at eye level: people stand still there for a few seconds.
- At local shops, pharmacies and markets, ask for permission and you will usually get it.
- At veterinary clinics and pet shops: this is where people who have found an animal are likely to go.
- At public transport stops and along dog-walking paths.
Common mistakes
- Too much small text: nobody will stop to read a paragraph.
- A dark photo or one where the animal appears tiny in the frame.
- No location or date: a poster without context looks old and gets ignored.
- Only one poster: put up 15-30 at busy passing points and replace them after rain.
The hassle-free option
When you post a listing on Reunika, the A4 poster is generated automatically, with the photo, location and a QR code linking directly to the listing page. Download it, print it and put it up. Any update, such as "seen yesterday in another neighbourhood" or "found!", appears instantly for anyone who scans it.
Common questions
Should I offer a reward on the poster?
You can, but avoid displaying a large amount, as it may attract scam attempts. Simply writing "Reward" is enough motivation.
