Common Scams and How to Spot Them Immediately
- "I found your pet, but I am in another city: send me the travel money." Never send money before you see the animal.
- "Send a fee or deposit and I will bring your pet to you." The same scheme, with different packaging.
- The caller cannot describe any detail that you have not already published. Ask for a photo taken on the spot: this is the test that 99% of scammers fail.
- Time pressure, such as "decide now, or I will give it to someone else", is a clear sign of a scam.
How to Hand Over the Reward Safely
- Only meet in person, after the animal is with you and it is clear that it is yours.
- Meet in a public place or have another person present.
- Many finders refuse the reward: a kind gesture is to insist once, then respect their refusal, or donate the amount to a shelter in their name.
