Where to report a lost pet in Poland: all options compared

The short answer: use them together, in this order: an online listing with a local alert on Reunika, the SAFE-ANIMAL chip registry if the pet has a chip, local Facebook groups and a visit to a schronisko. Below, each option is assessed honestly, with its pros and cons.

The options, one by one
- Reunika (reunika.com): a free listing created in under a minute, a live map of the area and an A4 poster with an automatically generated QR code; optionally, a paid alert on Facebook and Instagram sent to neighbours within the area where the pet went missing. The fastest way to cover an entire area.
- Local Facebook groups: the most active channel in Poland today, with thousands of people keeping an eye out. Downsides: posts get buried within hours, there is no map or search function, and anyone outside the group sees nothing. Use them, but include a link to your listing so the information stays in one place.
- SAFE-ANIMAL (safe-animal.eu): the chip registry with the widest coverage, connected to Europetnet. It is not a listings website: it works when someone scans the chip. Essential if the pet is chipped, but not enough on its own.
- OLX.pl, lost/found animals category: a large audience, but listings get lost among thousands of posts in other categories and there is no local alert. Worth posting on, but it should not be your main strategy.
- Small dedicated websites (alertuj.pl, znajda.org): limited traffic and few active listings; it does not hurt to use them, but do not rely on them.
- Schronisko + straz miejska: these are not websites, but they are essential in-person steps: this is where animals picked up from the streets end up.
The combination that works
- Post a listing on Reunika with a photo and the exact location (1 minute).
- Notify SAFE-ANIMAL and verify the contact details (if the pet has a chip).
- Post the listing link in 2-3 local FB groups.
- Call the schronisko daily; put up posters in the area from day 2.
Common questions
Why not post only on Facebook?
Because a post disappears from the feed within a few hours and cannot be found by someone searching tomorrow or next week. A listing with its own page stays on the map, appears in searches and gathers sightings in one place; groups are most useful for amplifying it as a link.
